Thursday 3 October 2002: Arriving
Approaching Arrecife airport from the sea. The balcony of our hotel room at the Teguise Playa hotel. The breakwater and beach. The hotel pools and beach.
Friday 4 October 2002: Sightseeing
Hairpin bend on the road north. Terraced fields from the road north. The church at Teguise, former ancient capital of Lanzarote. The lounge and circular bar at the Teguise Playa hotel.
Sunday 6 October 2002: Sightseeing at Timanfaya volcanic National Park
View from the visitor centre. Dry brush set on fire by the heat of the rock below the surface. An artificial geyser induced by pouring water into a pipe buried into the hot rock. Chicken cooked in the heat rising from the subterranean rock. Barren landscape nearly three centuries after the volcanic eruption which formed it. A quiet corner at the western end of Puerto del Carmen. The balconies, with sea views, of the Teguise Playa hotel.
Monday 7 October 2002: Grand Tour of the island
A camel ride included in the coach tour of the island. On camel back. The green colour of the lagoon is caused by phyto-plankton. So much wine. So little time. Puerto Calero. Submarine base. High tide in the caves at Jameos del Agua. 'Water chimneys' in aboriginal Canarian.
